Challenger Michael Flaherty is loading up his party train with bar and club moguls for the weekend ride to Election Day, trashing “wet blanket” Mayor Thomas M. Menino and stoking their hopes for later closing hours and all-night subway service.

The Boston Nightlife Coalition – a group of frustrated nightclub owners and promoters who have banded together against Menino – has packed recent fund-raisers for Flaherty and his campaign partner, City Councilor Sam Yoon.

The group also has taken out a full-page magazine ad and has been handing out fliers urging people to vote Flaherty/Yoon if they want:

* Bars and clubs to stay open later

* Late-night dining options

* The T to run all night

* A fair liquor and entertainment license process.

And in a shot at Menino, 66, who has rejected previous bids to extend bar hours, the fliers urge support for Flaherty if “you are not 65 and go to bed at 9:30 p.m.”

“If you’re tired about hearing from your patrons that they can’t get home after a night out on the town . . . then you need to join me,” Flaherty told the cable show “Dirty Water TV” after pledging to support Hub nightlife during a fund-raiser at Hub hot spot Post 390 this week.

Flaherty criticized Menino as a “wet blanket” on nightlife and called on owners to “tell your family, friends and staff to get out and vote on Nov. 3 for a new mayor.”

Menino campaign spokesman Nick Martin said the mayor supported the now-defunct Night Owl late-night T service. Martin added that Flaherty is pandering to the bar and nightclub industry in a desperate last-ditch campaign effort.

“This is an example of Councilor Flaherty speaking out of both sides of his mouth, telling one audience what they want to hear but not incorporating it into his message to the general public,” Martin said.

Coalition member Greg Selkoe, who runs the Hub-based online fashion portal Karmaloop, said Flaherty hasn’t officially endorsed the organization’s agenda, but, “He’s said he’ll listen.”

Selkoe said the group is backing Flaherty/Yoon because club and restaurant owners are “fed up.”

“(The Menino administration) cultivates a feeling of fear,” he said. “It’s pretty common knowledge there’s not a level playing field in this city. If you’re not on the mayor’s good side, you might as well go open something in Providence. If you’re on his good side, you get the permits and it all goes smoothly.”

Selkoe added that the nightlife industry, Boston’s second-largest industry, “feels like they’re under siege all the time. This is an economic development issue.”

The coalition includes club promoters and bar owners of popular watering holes such as The Greatest Bar and The Baseball Tavern.

Menino has opposed past efforts to extend bar hours, including during the 2004 Democratic National Convention, when he blocked a proposal to allow hotel bars to stay open until 4 a.m.

Gary Zerola ‘just fooling around’

Gary Zerola, the ex-Most Eligible Bachelor who was accused of sexually assaulting three women, partied at a “Naughty Nurse” fashion show the other night, where he was photographed licking and fondling a gaggle of willing gals.

Zerola, an attorney who was dubbed Boston’s most eligible bachelor by People magazine in 2001 and who was a finalist to be the star of the very first season of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” got up close and personal with four different women at the “Naughty Nurse” fashion show that was part of a liquor promotion at Ned Devine’s .

Zerola was pictured licking one woman’s chin, burying his face in another gal’s breasts and letting a third woman unbutton his shirt. In another photo, Zerola has his head up another woman’s skirt.

“I was just fooling around for the camera,” Zerola told us. “If you were there I would have put my head up your skirt.”

Which is why, the Track always wears pants to these events. But we digress . . .

It is unclear whether any of the women were familiar with Zerola’s past history. Three different women accused the 37-year-old former prosecutor of attacking them after meeting him in a bar. But Zerola beat the rap all three times.

In January 2008, Zerola was acquitted of trying to rape a 19-year-old girl in his North End apartment after the two spent a night of drinking at Boston clubs.

The woman testified that Zerola became enraged when she rebuffed his advances and, when she tried to flee, he ripped off her thong underwear and a leopard print $450 Dolce & Gabbana dress he had bought her. She said she ran naked into the street and called 911.

The following March, he was found not guilty of four counts of rape and one charge of procuring alcohol for a minor. Zerola’s 19-year-old accuser claimed the lawyer loaded her with liquor at the former Light nightclub in Downtown Crossing and then raped and sodomized her in his Beacon Hill condominium.

Prosecutors in Miami dropped a third rape case against Zerola after he was acquitted in the first two. In that case, an 18-year-old girl said she was drugged and raped by Zerola in a Miami hotel after meeting him in a bar.

In a fourth case, Zerola was acquitted of assaulting a Boston police officer who said Zerola slugged him and fled after he caught him urinating in public following the Celtics [team stats] NBA Championship victory last June.

David Portnoy of Barstool Sports, the magazine that sponsored the “Naughty Nurse” party, said he had no idea who Zerola was when he posted his picture on his Web site.

“I didn’t follow the case at all,” Portnoy said. “I had no clue until people started to e-mail me.”

Portnoy said the pictures were snapped by a photographer hired by Barstool Sports and that Zerola knew he was being photographed.

“People thought I was friends with him or something,” Portnoy said. “But I had no idea.”

Revolution Rock Bar is a venue with a tribute to all things rock & roll, theme. This bar, lounge & restaurant has two floors. Dual DJ booths and a stage fit for a rock star, or a band of them, allows for multiple live entertainment options.

Tuesday night, we primped and preened for the opening party for the new Mizu salon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The local elite squad was out in full force, dressed to kill, and showing off their most fabulous fall numbers with the chic coifs to match.

Once through Mizu’s entrance, we tunneled into a bright white cavernous space that made us think of an Arctic igloo. Evocative of the Swedish Ice Hotel, the futuristic aesthetic and minimalist decor is like no other salon we’ve ever seen in town.

Mizu is the first of two new salons by Elan Sassoon—one here, and one in New York—and yes, he’s the son of Vidal Sassoon. He takes after dad, for sure. Reknowned architect Niall McLaughlin designed the place, which is equipped with incredible technology like eyewear that allows guests to watch TV while getting revamped in the stylist’s chair. As for the services, they offer cuts, color, and makeup application—all of which promise to compliment each customer’s bone structure and individual style.

In fact, while taking in the atmosphere—both the architecture and the guest list—we had to blink several times, just to be sure we were still Boston.

Models strutted through flaunting haute couture do’s. Several guests flew in from Los Angeles, including Elan’s mother, Beverly Adams, and his sister, Eden Sassoon, and Charles Maksou, Janet Wu, and Herb Chambers were spotted mixing and mingling. DJ Soul Clap was also spinning beats, while guests sipped champagne and sampled sushi and other bites from Max Ultimate Food. The whole impressive soiree was organized by Regan Dillon, Jo Swani, and Sophie Zunz of the Moxie Agency.

Even the swag bag was lux: We took home a bevy of Kerastase products, Morrocan oil, and even a gift certificate for a return visit for a complimentary deep hydration treatment.

We’ve already been captivated by Mizu’s design, and now it’s on to testing the talent.

Okay – Well this is NEWS – the show is sold out – you most def can get tickets on the street for upwards of $150.00 a pop…Yep I checked.

It’s time America – it’s time Boston..Give in to the Fuzz Disco Electro Genius magnificence of the duo Justice!  Why does it take so long for us to get it..Electro Fuzz Disco is here to merge dance and indie and to save Dance Music altogether right?

Daft Punk and Kanye was  a decent start but really watch out Daft Punk!  I love Daft Punk and they are wondeful at what they do and the hook up with Kanye is a big step for dance music and Electronica!

This is different this is a new way to dance with raw edgy energy – like Simian Mobile Disco Justice carves out its own genre;  dismantling any preconcieved notions that we are in for more of the same tech euro trash of the Roxy hey dey and allows the underground dance communtiy to flourish once again – this is the rebirth of disco people!

Burn baby Burn – Disco is cool and it is BACK!

Justice preforms tomorrow night at the Paradise Rock Club the show is 18+!

Lords of the dance

Back in the day, well before Justice became the electro brand, but long after the release of those first breakneck beats, Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé settled on the cross: a 6-foot-tall prop crafted out of glass and steel and backlit by a fusillade of bright bulbs

This was in 2005 and ’06, when every other member of France’s dance scene was brawling for recognition amid what de Rosnay calls “the same neon colors, the same projection screens, the same beats.” Justice, instead, had turned toward the world of rock ‘n’ roll, copping initially (and liberally) from a theatric tradition pioneered by Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.

“We wanted white color and black, and no other color,” de Rosnay says from his home in Paris. “We wanted to invert the traditional thinking, bring out those huge stacks of Marshall [amplifiers], and play with the heavy-metal elements we’d grown up with.”

Light, of course, wasn’t exactly enough – neither, unfortunately, were the amp stacks – and soon Justice began toting around the oversize cross to their shows, where it dominated the stage and became a focal point for the audience.

“Religion and music,” de Rosnay, 25, says. “Here’s two things that can have a powerful appeal to a mass audience. Religion and music are the two things that can get 20,000 people together, raising their hands at the same moment.” He pauses, and then adds, “We want to turn music into a spiritual experience. Something more than a rock show or an electronic concert.”

Lets agree that most of America was counting on Amy Winehouse being a train wreck…

Woo fucking Hoo – what a great performance and a handful of well deserved awards for her and for Producer of the Year Mark Ronson ( Lily Allen, Winehouse and Himself).  Its too bad we are so fascinated with drama and so many of you assholes were looking forward to another  MTV VMA  Britney stupification.

Nothing like that here – not tonight. Altogether the show was done quite well.

Of note to the Nightlife Community;

Best Dance Recording went to Justin Timberlake for LoveStoned / I Think She Knows.  Nice to see a commercial force releasing a good dance record ( Hats off to Rihanna as well).  Personally, it would have been more refreshing to see an underground act a la Justice get a well deserved trophy.

Best Electronic / Dance Album went to personal favorites The Chemical Brothers for one of their less creative efforts- could it have been the familiar Bud Commercial that helpde this along?  I would of went with LCD Soundsystem’s Sound of Silver.

Best Remix – I love this category!    I can’t understand why Dirty South didn’t get this.  Dirty South bascially lay down the law in terms of the current facination of pop electro.  Dirty South may be one of the most ifluential remixers in re-establishing  the breaking of dance Music into the Pop Culture.  Now in praise of the winner Benassi;  if judging on the body of work then Benassi is hands down the absolute winner in this category – Bring the Noise was a great concept and  rocks but for my money and sweat its not the best of show to crank the dancefloor which HAS to come into play when voting on this category.

Now; Pahlease Will I Am Give it up…The show was going realtivly well until that forced crapola Will decided to spew forth thanks a lot….Great Performance byAlicia Keys – even better than the incredible SuperBowl Pre Game jam!
